Anne, a young girl of only 11 who has been in and out of orphanages since she was a baby comes to Avonlea happily thinking that this will be her first proper home. But when Anne finds out that there has been a mistake in her being a girl (they wanted a boy), she finds herself into what she calls the depths of despair. Anne, despite the fact of her being a girl eventually wins in time the love of both Merilla and Mathew Cuthbert to the extent that they have no choice but to keep her (as long as she promises that she will be a good girl).

Upon Anne's arrival she soon finds herself in all kind of trouble, from insulting the neighbour to dieing her hair green.  Anne does not seem like the good little girl that she promised Merilla she would be. Following Anne of Green Gables is the sequel of Anne of Avonlea, to Anne of the Island, Anne of Windy Willows, Anne's house of Dreams and the final book in the Anne series of Anne oof Inglside where she is the mother of 6 children.

People will be both uplifted and inspired as they read about the young little imaginitive orphan girl go from being a clumsy, jovial, talkative girl to a mature young lady. There will be times when they will cry with Anne as she comes across all kind of trials and tribulations upon her journey and rejoice when she rejoices, (cliche I know). Spread throughout the book is all kinds of characters from what seems like all walks of life. Anne has a wide range of friends from all sorts of ages and places.

In later Anne books you hear about her getting short works of fiction published to hearing about all kinds of crazy marriage propsals stories and Anne being a problem solver when you realise how Anne really is the true heroine of the story. Anne has captivated the hearts and imagination of people from all over the world for years that we owe it all to the long lost Lucy Maud Mongtomory
